Spring Cleaning

If you’re in the cleaning business, Spring is probably your busiest season. Customers, with tax refunds in hand, are calling every day for help sprucing up their spaces. In fact, this annual time of “renewal” probably translates into several new service contracts.

However, new stats generated by our BidSync bid tracking system show that Spring isn’t the only time that Uncle Sam could help boost your business. Government agencies are increasing their year-round spend in a number of cleaning-related categories. For example:

  • The total bidding opportunities for janitorial and cleaning equipment, supplies, and services increased by 79% from 2016 to 2017 at the federal, state and local government levels.
  • The spend on cleaning solvents, detergents and strippers at one large state government increased by 27.95% from 2016 to 2017.
  • Bids for water and sewer treatment equipment, supplies, and services also increased by 27% year-over year, with one large city spending an extra 23% on water and wastewater treating chemicals from 2016 to 2017.

These aren’t the only office-related supplies and services in hot demand, though:

  • Paper, printing equipment, and related products and services saw a 10% increase in bids from 2016 to 2017, with one state government in the Periscope Supplier Network spending 6% more on office paper spend and 19% more on disposable paper products.
  • Even more, one large metropolitan area spent 45% more on printing services year over year.

Government agencies typically have a lot of money to spend at the end of every fiscal year, and they want – really need – to spend it fast.

Curious when federal, state and local agencies will go on their shopping sprees for “easy buys” such as technology hardware and software, furniture, and other commodities or office services? Read this.

Clearly, it’s a good time to sell to the government – especially if you’re looking for a more stable source of year-round income. Every public sector entity is responsible for buying cleaning services, supplies and furnishings for its many offices, which leads to thousands of new bid solicitations every month across the United States. It doesn’t matter if the agency is soliciting for a one-time purchase of office furnishings or seeking a supplier for a multi-year fulfillment of basic office necessities, every contract you win equates to a new revenue (and hopefully profit) stream for your business both before and after the “spring cleaning” rush.

Don’t risk missing out on some of the most prevalent and straightforward business opportunities that emerge every day, 365 days a year.
